Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE): On Monday, the drugmaker Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) announced its intention to pay as much as US$700 million to acquire NextWave Pharmaceuticals Inc., a privately held, specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of unique products for the treatment of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and related central nervous system disorders. Pfizer had paid NextWave US$20 million during the second quarter 2012 as part of an option to buy the company. The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter this year, subjecting to regulatory approval in the United States and other customary closing conditions. Shares of Pfizer ended lower by US$0.16 (-0.62%) to US$25.60 with more than 24.35 million shares exchanged hands for the session, compared to its average volume of 27.25 million shares.
